#8: George Lucas: “Youtube’s Content = Circus Entertainment.”[Top 10 Moments from a Decade of All Things Digital]
Although he’s pictured above with its founders Steve Chen and Chad Hurley, legendary filmmaker George Lucas seemed to be of the opinion that YouTube was the dark side of video content — an opinion he made clear at D5 in 2007.
“Internet video is circus entertainment,” Lucas said. “As the term in Hollywood goes, it’s like ‘throwing a puppy on the highway.’ You don’t have to write anything or do anything. It’s voyeuristic. It’s YouTube.” The famed Star Wars creator emphasized the need for more “insightful storytelling.” If you have some time and want to watch his full interview, check it out here.

Can we really begin with anyone besides Steve Jobs?

The man who was the highlight of so many D conferences over the years was also at their first ever, back in 2003. After Bill Gates had introduced the concept of Microsoft’s exciting new Tablet Computer to everyone in the audience, Steve Jobs offered his own take from the mainstage: “We looked at the tablet, and we think it’s gonna fail.”
