#1: Bill Gates and Steve Jobs Unite On Stage[Top 10 Moments From A Decade of All Things Digital]Well folks, we’ve reached our No. 1 highlight in our countdown of 10 years of the D: All Things Digital conference. It’s been fun — and there have been some great moments — some interesting, some funny, many both. But this top moment was a no-brainer — easily the highlight of the D5 conference and, for that matter, of any conference since. The legendary Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, sharing the main stage, for an historic conversation about the tech landscape. Watch the interview in its entirety here.  And, in a perfect and poignant moment, Jobs used The Beatles to help him describe the relationship between himself and his fellow tech Titan: “You and I have memories longer than the road that stretches out ahead.”
Here’s to another 10 years, as great — or greater than — the first.

#2: Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz Uses Some … Colorful Language[Top 10 Moments From A Decade of All Things Digital]
It’s Day 2 of D10 and, appropriately, we’re down to moment #2 on our Top 10 Countdown from a decade of All Things Digital. Today’s highlight comes to you from D7 in 2009, when Yahoo’s then-CEO Carol Bartz took to the stage to discuss the company’s relationship with Microsoft, clear up the myth that Google and Yahoo do the same things, and explained the slow process of improvement and growth (best quote: “You can’t take nine women and make a baby in a month!”), proclaimed  ”I don’t need a #2,” and … oh yeah … dropped an F-Bomb.
Certainly the most colorful speaker the conference has ever had!
Watch the full video (“Carol Bartz: Live and Uncensored!”) here.

#3: Andrew Mason’s Killer Death Stare
[Top 10 Moments From A Decade of All Things Digital]

As D10 kicks off today in Racho Palos Verdes, Calif., we pick up our Countdown post-holiday with moment #3, from last year’s conference, when Groupon CEO Andrew Mason insisted he wanted to break some news himself, then  announced that there was still absolutely nothing to report about Groupon’s IPO, which at the time was reportedly just days from happening.

But Kara wanted more — since she suspected the company was about to list, she asked again. And that time, Mason responded with his own special technique — rather than continuing to dodge, he simply flashed his (pretty effective and hilarious) Death Stare.

(P.S. The company debuted here on NASDAQ as GRPN on Nov. 4, 2011.)

#4: Demo of Bionic “Luke Arm” by DEKA Research [Top 10 Moments from A Decade of All Things Digital]
Named for the famous Jedi’s bionic arm, Segway creator and DEKA Research Co-Founder Dean Kamen introduced his newest project at D6 in 2008: a prosthetic arm capable of “bilateral movement and fine motor control.”
Even more impressive? The arm is controlled merely by thinking, as presented to the audience in this demo video. It shows an amputee who hasn’t been able to use his arm for 13 years using the Luke Arm to pour himself a drink and feed himself. This is some impressive and inspirational stuff.

Man, if I could make a business, I’d make a business to show all our friends how hard this burrito rocks.

#5: YouTube founders embrace their own medium and introduce themselves with a goofy parody video
[Top 10 Moments from a Decade of All Things Digital]

Not to be outdone by the star of our #8 moment mocking the “circus” style of their content, YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen introduce themselves at the same conference, D5, with this hilarious spoof video about the birth of their now ubiquitous web video site. Watch it here
